Carboxylic Acid Dyes

Carboxylic acids dyes are widely used to prepare fluorescent labeled peptides and small molecular fluorescent probes.  They are precursors of NHS esters (i.e., succinimidyl esters).  When some succinimidyl esters are not compatible with specific application, carboxylic acids are used to prepare sulfosuccininidyl esters or 4-sulfotetrafluoropehenyl (STP) esters which have higher water solubility than simple succinimdyl esters, thus to avoid using of organic solvent in the conjugation reaction.
